Today's Styled Wedding Shoot

       ***************************************

I love collaborating with other wonderful, creative wedding designers & professionals. This centerpiece got to come back to the studio with me and looks right at home on my desk. Although camelias and azaleas don't hold up very well, I had to snag a few from my backyard for their gorgeous colors and crepe paper textures.

Experimenting with different color palettes like blackish-eggplant mini callas and the darkest hypericum I've come across thus far, with delicate blush-white roses makes for unique and interesting arrangements. I'm still a champion for carnations and these peach mambos lent themselves well to the overall design.

A Beautiful Rainy Day Wedding in Savannah

********************************

Today was a beautiful day for a wedding here in Savannah at the lovely Savannah College of Art & Design's Magnolia Hall. A rainy wedding makes for a sunny marriage. And much congratulations to Nicola + Robert.

I loved the little bay window alcove area that looked onto the courtyard. It was the perfect setting for an organic arrangement that fit perfectly atop my little hallway table.  Queen Anne's Lace, quicksand roses, coin eucalyptus, champagne spray roses, astrantia, white hypericum and some blushy white astilbe, white patience david austin roses, and dusty miller, were a few of the flowers that went into the arrangements.

New Year's Resolutions

****************************

And so another year rolls up before us. I'm blushing to see my last entry was in June. Hence, "New Year's Resolutions". I shall not set myself up for failure by promising to write everyday. On the contrary, several times a month might be more realistic. Thus far, most of my posts have been highlights of our beautiful brides and their lovely weddings, but with Pinterest visually taking us over by storm, there's simply so much eye candy to share and chat about. Speaking of resolutions, the Knot has some fun ones for you brides to be.

Are those resolutions tucked into a bridal bouquet? Close- they're love letters! My brilliant bride Kellie, made origami flowers out of her beloved's missives and we fashioned them into an amazing bouquet- talk about teamwork! I love it when brides think out of the box :)

Thank you to each of you: brides, families and vendors who made 2012 a tremendous joy and a Happy 2013 to come!

Hooray Annie + Dustin

********** It was a perfect day for a perfect wedding. Annie and Dustin celebrated their nuptials at the Tybee Wedding Chapel, on a sunny, early summer afternoon. The flowers embodied eclectic elegance while the decor design exhibited southern rustic charm. Bouquets of blush stock, roses, peonies, and dusty miller accompanied tablescapes of lace burlap runners, homey candles, and milk glass bud vases. The wedding cake was just as charming and beautiful as the decor. Everything flowed together, and it was such a pleasure to create the look and feel of Annie's big day. All of the floral design complemented her and her party in such a beautiful way. Thanks to Jade and Matthew for their absolutely gorgeous photos.

Congratulations Chelsea + Rylan

********** I had a great time creating a bright, crisp design look for this lovely, quirky couple for their spring wedding. Chelsea had chosen a cheerful color palette which inspired me to make something part playful, part tame, all fantastic. The result: a combo of roses and tulips in spunky shades of yellow, orange and ivory. I'd like to thank Teresa Earnest from Memories N More for capturing the jolly duo of Chelsea and Rylan.

Springtime Wish: Yellows + Robin's Egg Blue

*********************

It looks like another cold front is coming in, but we enjoyed some beautiful balmy weather here in Savannah yesterday. Now mind you, as a native New Yorker and a gal who spent quite a few bitter winters in college in Ohio, I am not complaining. January in Georgia this year (so far) has been quite mild. But we all still have spring on the brain.

Lemony, buttery yellows with the still pale blue evoke sunny blue, warm skies; early spring fades into summer. Last night the gals from Posh Petals and Pearls and I, enjoyed the festivities and set up a vignette at Brockington Hall for the bridal show: Bustles and Badges.

It's raining today but we're excited for our photo shoot tomorrow at Bonaventure with Scott and Melissa of Scott Hopkins Photography. We'll keep you posted.

Update: It was windy, but Scott and Melissa, with cameras ready, shot away.  Starting at Bonaventure we moved to catch the light towards Tybee along the bike trail. They did an amazing job!

Brides.com Winter Weddings: UP feature

*********************

Not the prettiest screen shot, but I was thrilled to be invited by Brides.com to create a winter bouquet for their Winter Weddings feature.

Below are some other fun arrangements I put together. I'm so thrilled to have a little window of time to "play". I know with wedding season looming around the corner, I might disappear from writing now and again.

Bride 2012: Red is the Color

*********************

Maybe because it's cold and red is the color that graces the noses, ears and fingertips of many of us; perhaps it's knowing that Cupid is on the way? Whatever the reason, red, the color of love and vibrant passion is making quite the scene this 2012 wedding season.

Above is a bouquet (look for it and Urban Poppy's style shoot in the Feb./Mar. 2012 issue of SOUTH Magazine) made of red amaryllis, lipstick tulips, pin cushion protea, fiery red carnations, burgundy spray roses and dark berries. As an accent to the red and rather than going with the typical whites and creams, wheat and beige offset the brightness with sponge mushrooms, dried wheat and millet, and my ever favorite rose: Quicksand.

A New Year's Eve Wedding in Savannah

*********************

Congratulations to Brittanie and Colin on their beautiful New Year's Eve Wedding. This wedding is "especially special" to me as Brittanie was my last bride of 2011, but also my first in Urban Poppy's new studio. It was wonderful to create some beautiful arrangements and have the space to spread out in.

*********************

Brittanie wanted a soft winter wedding feel without the cliche red and green color scheme. She opted for soft nudes, whites and evergreens that perfectly complemented her dress.

Initially she had discussed wearing a stole in lieu of a bouquet but opted for flowers. What is so wonderful to me is that the wheat tufts in her bouquet almost look like fur.

*********************

The white hypericum berries were a fun addition and really tied together perfectly with the beautiful handmade ceramic boutonnieres she found on Etsy.

The Star of Bethlehem paid homage to the holidays as did the winter greens of cypress and douglas fir. White tulips and carnations were fresh as snow. My favorite continues to be the Quicksand rose. The color was primarily nude with a hint of blush.

*********************

Many times having certain types of flowers are dictated by the seasons. Brittanie loved the look of the scabiosa pods, both for their texture and the perfect camel/taupe color she had in mind for her wedding palette. Not wanting to disappoint, I was thrilled when Brittanie noticed the sweet gum balls I had found outside of our house and collected for the corsages. I was so impressed!

*********************

The color matched perfectly with the cinnamon stick votives that she and her maid of honor, Kori, worked so hard to create.

*********************

{ flowers in above arrangements: quicksand roses, chablis spray roses, white carnations, white tulips, white sola wood flowers, seeded eucalyptus, cypress, douglas fir, camellia buds, holly, sponge mushrooms, wheat, sweet gum balls, white hypericum, star of bethlehem, yoko ono, or kermit mums }
